OTMR Live Makes a Difference!
You could never have told me ahead of time what a difference our On The Matter of Race Live Conference Experience would make in the lives of everyone who attended and everyone who met us. To receive the ultimate compliment from the Hilton’s Convention Services Manager, Soo Park, that she had so many people on the dining services staff come to her to tell her how kind I am, was mind-blowing. They took the time to do that. That is the difference made.
Everyone who joined us in DC took the time to be there, some flying in from across the country, some driving hours, one person who commuted from home and even one OTMR family member who flew in from England. We all took the time to break bread together, to dig deep together, to usher in the ancestors together, to cry together, to break out into an impromptu Soul Train line together, to push ourselves to role-play having the difficult conversations of race with resistant White people and to take that powerful silent walk together through the streets of downtown DC to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.
The power of our connection and commitment made a difference and what we are doing in OTMR is doing our part to make a difference against racism in the world.
